Lab 6
For this week's lab we were asked to do two activities. The first activity involved looking at how to use the drag and drop functions in our learning modules. This tool is a critical element in making sure the activity has an interactive component. By allowing the user to interact with the materials understudy, not only can they gain better mastery of what they are learning. The interactive designer can give the learner the critical feedback they need as they try and manipulate the materials. Also by setting up the interactivity correctly, the learner can be given explanatory feedback which will create more of a personalized learning situation. Lastly, the drag and drop also allows the steps or movement of the learning pieces to be sequential, this will help the learner better understand the cause and effect relationship of the components as well as get immediate feedback on whether they are putting the pieces or ideas in the correct order. I'd say this is one of the most powerful aspects of Captivate's interactive design elements.
Also we were asked to look at some pre-made materials that could be incorporated into our designs if there isn't enough time to make something. We were asked to specifically add a course starter which is the overall looks and feel or design of the module. And we were asked to add a pre-made interactive element. I chose a pop art theme for my course starter and a four part, multiple choice button activity for my interactive element. I stuck with the pop art theme and ask the user to choose a Campbell soup can that Andy Warhol would have accepted as a representation of his own work. It was a fun activity since all the design and interactivity were done and I just had to add some art and figure out how to use what was prebuilt.
