Assignment 3.2 Poster
Always thinking about my classroom, I decided to do a poster for my ideal classroom in Canva. The overall theme for this classroom would be that it is STEM based. A secondary theme about this classroom is that the activities are all hands on and collaborative. I chose the background image from a photo taken of my own classroom last year in which the students were learning to use LittleBits electronic components. There is an open notebook and the collaborative learning activity is the key element rather than a space which is perfectly organized. There are a lot of diagonal lines and activity happening which shows students working together but taking separate approaches.
For P.A.R.C. elements, I consciously tried to use several. I used proximity to try and create two columns one with the STEM content and the other with classroom elements. For alignment I tried to use both horizontal and vertical centering lines, which Canva offered to make sure all the elements interconnected. On the right side the STEM text touches the edge on the right side and the USB connector touches the edge on the left side. For repetition I tried to use a similar font for words that were connected such as “STEM Based” as well as the list of classroom attributes. Lastly for contrast I used only black, white, red, and yellow for colors so that the design elements would stand out.
The poster took me about two hours to complete in Canva, but part of the problem was with the web site not loading elements and downloading an image which didn't match the original I was working with.
I used Canva to complete all the design elements of the poster except for the background photograph which was taken in my classroom. I've used the web site before, and I like the ease and speed with which a product can be completed.
